1968 Chevrolet Corvette 427 4-Speed RWD**No Canadian Luxury Tax**- Original Numbers Matching 427 Big Block Engine- 4-Speed Muncie Transmission- Cortez Silver Paint with recent restoration- Original Black InteriorChevrolet's Corvette ranks just one notch below immortality on America's list of mechanical achievements --- and well it should. Every working aspect and every styling feature evolved from Chevrolet's plan to build the ultimate American car. The Corvette is exciting, it's lusty, it stimulates all of the base emotion lurking deep in modern man. It was, of course, the car of choice for NASA's Astronauts while they prepared to rocket to the moon.Subtlety has never been a characteristic of Corvettes. It's a brutal, masculine looking machine with a shape that suggests a slightly overweight Group 7 sports racer or one of the Le Mans Ferraris when they were winning. The shape doesn't whisper, it bellows power, and with the 390-horsepower 427 cu. in. engine, and 4-speed Muncie transmission, it has the performance to back up the looks and the sound. This 1968 Corvette features it's Original, Numbers-Matching 427 engine and drivetrain, and shows excellent originality throughout the engine compartment, interior and drivetrain. The body has all its original factory panels intact, and has been given a high quality restoration and paint several years ago, in the factory original Cortez Silver paint. It features many one-year-only 1968 Corvette details, including unique door handles, and the original 1968 only dash and door panels. The '68 Corvette is a 2-door rocket sled. The 427 inch Big Block lives up to its legendary reputation. The transmission, as always, is perfect --- with a well-balanced, sturdy-feeling linkage that builds all kinds of confidence. Clutch effort is light considering the torque it must cope with. All of this is to say that shifting is easy and pleasant, but the close ratio transmission and the 460 lbs./ft. of torque make it seldom necessary.Equipped with power steering which is a great option to have if you ever want to parallel park your fat-tired, 427-engined plastic Chevrolet. It's a very high-effort type of power steering with great road feel, and the only indication you have that help is coming from somewhere is that parking effort is the same as normal driving effort. The power brakes are of the low-effort variety and when it comes to stopping the car, they're the next best thing to an arresting hook. Four-wheel disc brakes are standard on the Corvette, and they really work. The instrument panel is done-up in the aircraft tradition with all kinds of matter-of-fact looking instruments on a flat-black background and very little bright metal trim --- which is the way to go. The low roofline and pinched waist have resulted in a more intimate-feeling cockpit --- some will call it small, with justice.Of course the champion of Corvette's trick stuff parade has to be the take-apart T-Top roof. We've put off talking about it almost to the end because we can't decide whether we like it or not. Two latches hold each panel and, in typical Corvette fashion, panels come out with ease. Driving the open-air coupe is pleasant, with the side windows up there is almost no draft, even at speed.Mechanically it feels unbreakable and it delivers a full measure of performance that its competitors can't match. Handling is impeccable, limited only by street tires, and the Corvette's pitch and float-free ride is ideally suited to high speed highway touring. This Corvette is part of a new wave of investment cars that continue to climb in value. There are so very few of these desirable early 427 cars left in this sort of original shape, and it makes for the perfect car for a buyer who is looking to enjoy driving and showing a car, all the while it continues to appreciate in value. As NASA prepares to go back to the moon in the next few years, drive the car that took the Apollo Astronauts to their missions, and relive the legend that brought them there. This vehicle is presented by Sherwood Motorcars located at 155-3001 Buckingham Drive, Sherwood Park, AB T8H 0X5.
